Others ebb and flow from bearable to bat-shit crazy. Difficult weeks come with being a successful Creative Recruiter. I fully embrace it.

I believe that the search can be just as gratifying as the end result. However, I admit having trouble seeing it when in the thick of a difficult search at 6pm on a Friday night.

My goal: identify, connect with and vet qualified candidates - pitch to our clients (who are on a deadline, themselves) and secure the right placement- with minimal information about our clients' project.

Success! Connected, vetted, pitched and confirmed. Tough task, indeed.

Feeling good about the late night, I take a victory walk toward the train, replying to emails to my candidate and client as I weave through Washington Square Park.

I emerge from the PATH in Hoboken and take a quick look at two new emails in my inbox. I find a message from our client canceling the candidate. I am livid... only for a minute.

What brings my blood pressure to a normal level is knowing my team had my back. Throughout the organized chaos I call work, my team is there. Encouraging me, partnering with me and supporting me.

"There is no last man standing here".

I board the train in Hoboken and think about the work I do... the work I did tonight. I believe again, that the search can be just as gratifying as the end result.

It finally feels like winter outside and I'm feeling good. Listened to the new Black Keys album, El Camino today. Very solid record, indeed.

I made the decision to walk from my office to 9th Street PATH station tonight, to finish the album and enjoy a crisp night. Walking through Washington Square Park tonight, I noticed there weren't many people out and about. This was much different a few weeks ago. Occupy Wall Street protesters lined the park, making it difficult to walk in peace.

Funny thing here is where and how I've been finding peace recently. Outside, taking in the scenery. People. Trees. Landmarks. Art. Being super busy at work has made me appreciate the times where I can put on my headphones and be in my own world while being completely aware of the world around me.
<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It's almost been a full week since we've returned from Mexico and all I can say is our trip was fantastic. I'm officially a married man!!!!

Our day was perfect. Warm sun, Gulf waters in the background and fantastic family and friends.

This two week excursion was much needed, as Nicole and I haven't been on a proper vacation in all the time we've been together. We visited Xcaret, which is a nature preserve / park with beautiful jungle like foliage and wild animals. We soaked up the warm sun, drank many a mojito, enjoyed a pre wedding day bonfire and tequila tasting, post wedding fire show / fire dancers and half day catamaran excursion to snorkel Xpu Ha, the second largest barrier reef. We also hit Playa Del Carmen a couple of nights. Hands down, our favorite people in the world (our family and friends) we're able to join us!!!

I've been ear to ear smiles and will continue this positivity.

So, over the next 10 days i'll be Riviera Maya, Mexico. I've been really excited to get here for many reasons. The main reason i'm super excited is that I am getting married on Friday, November 4th! I know that part of the trip will be memorable!!!! Nicole and i have been looking forward to this for a very long time.

I'm very much looking forward to having my friends and family together for the first time. (I really feel like most of my posts start this way). Never the less, I'm posting again.

We're damn near half way through 2011 and I feel like it's flown by rapidly. I've made a pact with myself to travel more. Fuck it, who am I kidding? I've made a pact with myself to travel. Traveling is something I've always wanted to do and now I'm going to do it. I've visited my best friend, saw old friends and made new friends in Raleigh. I've flown to Dallas, for a night and I won't stop there. I want to get to Austin and Amsterdam at the very least, and maybe more. The way I see things is this: this world is full of culture, bustling cities and quiet villages, and I want to experience as much of it as possible.

Yes, the last five months have been a whirlwind. I can't remember half of what I did, saw and experienced. All I can tell you is, for the most part, I had a great time doing it.

I'm going to keep doing, seeing and experiencing the world around me. I have been embracing and absorbing positive, constructive criticism and have seen an improvement in production. There are many more things on my "to-do" list, which i will accomplish, however i have to see the trees through the forest.

Life is pretty damn good.

What the shit!?!?

Seriously... watch it and you'll know what i mean.

brilliant

work

<a class="mb" href="http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/zz272/bdotyoung/SoHoblackwhite.jpg" id="mb1" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It's always a good to see tattoo artist, Matt Rosenthal. Told you it was about time for a new tattoo. Pics to come after my next sitting.

I'm going to take this year by the balls and become a sponge of information for all things related to the digital space, advertising and creative. Along with that, i'm going to re-ignite the projectCAPTURED fire that should have been blazing all along. Hand in hand with that, i'm hoping to be more active in friends' projects. I've got some good friends with a few great endeavors that i really support.

In the personal aspect of my life, i've got zero bandwidth for drama. I don't have the time nor the space in my life for it. Nuff said about that.

My suggestion... be something this year. After being out for lunch, the executive decision was made to close our offices for Christmas Eve. To be 100% honest, i was NOT looking forward to commuting into the city for work on Christmas Eve, working a half day and commuting home. With the great news, i get to begin Christmas vacation a day early. Merry Christmas to me and thanks to the great people at CC for making this happen!

Christmas shopping is finally wrapped up, all the gifts are wrapped and under the tree. This is my favorite time of year... not for the presents i receive, but for the presents i give. Seeing the smiles on the faces of family and friends is one of the greatest things ever.

Speaking of friends, i am fortunate to have a great friend back in the area for the holidays. I cannot wait to get together and have a few pints!

Coming soon... New Years resolutions. This redesign was LONG overdue.

I'm not a designer, but i'm quite proud of a holiday card, thingie, i designed. Check out the card here. Let me know what you think.

HOME

This week might have been the longest week in history. The compilation of not being 100 percent well Monday, late nights Tuesday and Wednesday, a glimmer of hope Thursday (read on time departure from the office) and another late night Friday add up to me stressing to the point my muscles ache.
It seems like every client is pitching right now. Last minute needs are running rampant in the advertising world and it's the week before Christmas.Didn't anyone tell them? Weekend project - no problem. Monday through Thursday (Christmas week) design needs - done. Retoucher at the ready when you call - can do. Street promo team for 10 hour days this weekend - get your gloves, they'll be there.

I said it earlier, this was the first week where I let things get to me. I think I managed it well, though. This, at least was much more organized chaos. I can dig it. I almost thrive on it. What can I say.

I love what I do.

HOME

I learned a lot about good design today. Yea, that's strange to say, given my profession. I looked at the work of Saul Bass, Karim Rashid and Milton Glaser. Very distinct individual styles yet all extremely likable.

I felt quite moved when reviewing their works. Being comfortable in a work space is essential to me, and when I am comfortable I start to push myself and learn. I realize that I am surrounded by motivated people and superior leadership. It's now time for me to learn from my peers.

I will be challenging myself, and realize that there will be small failures. However I realize that with the small failures there will be HUGE successes that will out weigh the inconsequential failures. I'm not being pessimistic, but realistic. Nobody is perfect and opportunities to enrich your professional career must not be overlooked.

Tonight we drink and have a phenomenal time (for non-work related matters).

WOW... i'm tired.

I'm fresh off a trip to Los Angeles and feeling good. I'll give a back story, but first, I want to thank everyone who reached out to their contacts and showed me support through my brief unemployment stint. Onto the backstory...

Short version: After being out of work for about 4 weeks, I was offered (and accepted) a position at a specialized staffing agency representing advertising + creative professionals. I was flown to LA for a week to get the deets of my new company and have now started working in our Soho office. While in LA, I connected with Alex McTighe and friends for great Martini's and oysters at Nic's Beverly Hills and roamed the streets of Beverly Hills and LA. Good times indeed.

It was great to see Alex after such a long time. Back in NYC, I'm enjoying the challenge of stepping into a new company and feel there are great things to come.

More frequent blog updates to come... promise.

The weather is pretty sweet, it's Friday, good tunes streaming through iTunes and I'm in a good mood. The job search is still going on, I've set up a home office of sorts. I find I get more done at my desk, in my little 'office' than I would sitting at the dining room table with papers everywhere.

I've had a few good meetings in the last week. It's definitely strange being the interviewee in the situation. I haven't been properly interviewing in over 3 years and it is good to dust off the skills. I've met with great people that know what they're doing and where their companies are going.

Downtown is definitely the place to be. Coming from an office in Midtown, surrounded by suits and tourists, Soho is somewhere I think I could work.

Looking into next week, I've got Labor Day coming up, and a my job search continues. I'm looking forward to it. In the past 3 years I have learned a lot about advertising, marketing and design and am taking that knowledge with me on the search for an in house, agency side position as a recruiter/HR manager in a creative agency that does great work. I strive to be an integral member of a team that values creativity in every aspect of their well oiled machine. How are you? It's time to sit down and write for BdotSomething.

I'm giving thanks to good karma. Recently tons of great things have been coming my way. I've been connecting with good people that have really been influencing me in a positive way and I am truly enjoying life. Let me catch you up...

About two months ago, an idea came to fruition. projectCAPTURED. It's a passion of mine. I've been spending my free time; weekends, late nights and lunch breaks doing everything I can to make this project happen. We've created a blog for projectCAPTURED, called Shoot What You See and that's been monopolizing a good amount of my blog focus time. Check out both sites, and click around a bit. Let me know what you think.

My daily grind as a Creative Recruiter is going well despite the fact that business for recruiters could be better right now. I'm expanding myself and what I can offer my agency to keep us at the forefront of our industry. I'm taking on more challenges, pushing myself harder and am in the middle of inking a deal (my first) to offer onsite training for our candidates.

I've had the chance to be creative recently! Granted it needs to be finished, but I put paint to canvas in the last 2 months. Hey, it's a start. I have found artistic inspiration, by the name of Shai Dahan. Shai's a great friend who co-founded Abztract. He's taken the time to open the doors to his world and allow me a peek inside. You should check out Abztract andBirdGunBlog. TOP NOTCH.

In true B.Young fashion, I got another tattoo by Matt Rosenthal of Tattoo Nation. There are tons of talented artist creating great pieces. Maybe you've heard about Joseph Carnevale, student/artist getting educated in NC. I think he's brilliant. Here's a quick look at an article about his recent work:

"RALEIGH (AP) — When Joseph Carnevale chopped up three stolen orange and white traffic barrels from a construction site to create a massive sculpture of a roadside monster thumbing a ride, the North Carolina college student said he saw it as a form of street art. Raleigh police just saw vandalism."

Check out the full article here.

As promised... an update. I've been engulfed in projectCAPTURED. If you're not familiar with the project, check it out at www.projectcaptured.com. Idea sessions, with a few great people, have developed projectCAPTURED into a very real project that I'm excited about. We've had meetings with great people and have plans for sponsored events in the near future. More on that soon.

Another point... I'm thoroughly disappointed with playlists on the radio. How many times can one hear Poker Face or Blame it on the Alcohol. I mean come on people. Is this what music has become? DIVERSIFY! It's not that difficult. No wonder people retreat to their iPods in their cars and at work.

A good friend of mine, who happens to be the guy behind The Simon Chronicles suggested I listen to TRV$DJAM "Fix Your Face, Vol.2 - Coachella '09". I ran a mix of emotions. I was hesitant (mostly about the DJAM part), and really intrigued about the Travis Barker aspect (he's got crazy drum skills- if you don't know who he is, you must live under a rock). So I gave it a listen. I dig it, in a big way. Check it at www.trvsdjam.com .

I'm still thinking about re-working the site. I can't take complete credit for this idea. I had a brief conversation with a fellow Twitterer @adamwohl after he mentioned a car photo scavenger hunt.

What about organizing a giant digital scavenger hunt? The concept is fairly elementary. If you're reading this or know what Twitter is you probably own a digital camera, right? Chances are you don't work 24/7 and you've got a little spare time to kill. Personally, I know I'm all about being outside when the weather's delicious. I also know I want to use my digital camera more (It's a Nikon CoolPix, I like it). What if my creativity brought about something that gets you outside, exploring new/different places, developing your eye and having fun? I call it...

CAPTURE

shoot what you see

Here's how it works...

We find out who's interested in participating in something like this...

Have them create/provide a photo sharing account on a site like Kontain...

We come up with a list of things we want to see...

We put the list out to everyone who's participating in CAPTURE via multiple channels (Blog, Twitter. Kontain)

Ask everyone involved to post the pics to their respective photo sharing account...

and BAM we've got CAPTURE

I'd be completely willing to organize CAPTURE on a monthly basis, creating lists (with input,of course) and ideas about how to keep this fresh as long as people are into it and will get behind it. Dita's work is criticized in the US and critically acclaimed in Europe. Americans don't support the art of burlesque with the same enthusiasm as Europeans. In my opinion, there ain't nothin' wrong with a little playful, artful and tasteful tease. By the way, you should check out Inked Magazine for culture, style, art, the Dita interview, other kickass interviews and most importantly... because I say so.

When I look at what Americans do patronize: gentleman's clubs, back alley 'massage' parlors, high profile (read: low class) escort services and such I wonder where the burlesque fits in. Clearly, it doesn't, and I wanna know why.

Just like any other beer swilling, red blooded male heterosexual; I've supported gentleman's clubs (both in the US and other nations). Sure there are hot girls there, gyrating and not-so-fluidly moving to music... but where's the sex appeal, the mystery. (I'm not talking about the mysterious rash bestowed upon you at some shitty club). What I'm talking about is the show. Sure, any girl can get up on a stage in 4 inch clear platforms, a neon green bikini and that ever so pointless, long sheer coat thingie; drop it to the ground and grind on a pole. Where's the performance and skill... where's the showmanship?

I think burlesque screams Americana, and should be more prevalent in our country.

BdotSomething
Get Inked

(Disclaimer: I am not knocking anyone in the adult entertainment biz. I dig it.

B.Something

'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2009/03/what-happens-when-i-get-creative-well.html' title='What Happens When I Get Creative... I am. This weekend, I took the initiative to refresh the soul. It's been two months (and in another case, at least a year plus) too long, since I've seen, and subsiquently tied an epic load on with comerades. 2 months of anticipation, 9 hours of driving and two nights of drinking bring me to this point. I'm refreshed, invigorated and ready to take on the world.

I've seen many things in the last 2 days. My favorite, and most inspirational is the Free Expression Tunnel at NC State. What I'm talking about is a designated area of campus, where anyone with a creative nerve in their body can feel free to release their inner creative on public domain, without penalty of any sort. When we visited, there were a couple, real graf writers going to town on a wall. Those (3 of you) that frequent BdotSomething know how I feel about street art. I fucking love it.

Long and short of it is this... my soul's been reassured that people I care greatly for, are adjusted, healthy, and doing well; I've removed myself from the NYC metro area for a bit, got to unwind and I've found another spot I love!

I'm blogging from Mitch's Tavern in Raleigh, so I'm going to do shots now. If you don't know, now you know. NT, TS, TC, KC and Hannah... Appreciate it and love you all!

Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2009/03/2-months-10-hours-lovin-life.html' title='2 months, 10 hours... You have the ability to open a new door, turn the page to a new chapter and begin something new and special. Stepping over that threshold and with a turn of the page, take with you all the good times that you've experienced and relish each smile you've shared with friends over the years.

Today, familiar things may be coming to a close, but it's the beginning of something unique, for someone unique. People may feel that their wubby, their coworker and friend is moving on and be bitter about it. Realize, though, that there are others, like me, that understand today hatches something sweet.

Truth be told, there will be more miles (than I want to think about, right now) to travel to have that beer and shot of Jameson that we're used to. You know what? It'll will make each south bound mile marker that much sweeter to pass. Dude, you've been faced with tough decisions in the past, and I emphatically support and applaud every corner you've turned.

I'd be lying if I said there wouldn't be challenges ahead. You know there will be. I know you're a fighter and never give up. I'd be lying if I said I have doubts that you'll be able to make things happen. You know you can and will. I know you'll come up aces.

Know this... You are an amazing friend and someone that I look up to, more than you'll ever know. I think of you, and think... It's 2009 and I'm making a promise to you, the 13 dedicated people reading. This year, I will not neglect BdotSomething. I've got some ideas that I'm going to put out there, and you lucky (or unlucky) few will be the first to view, comment and hopefully like what's in BdotSomething's oven.
Looking back at BdotSomething I've realized I haven't had much to say about who I am and what I'm about. So, I'm going to open my door and provide you a bit of a peek.
BdotSomething was created by me, Brian. Ok, you've seen enough. Naw, just kidding. Really, my name is Brian. I'm a semi-normal guy making the best of the cards I've been dealt. I may be a tad bit off kilter, by some people's standards, but I really believe it makes me unique.
I've traveled through life (thus far) with thoughts of where I wanted to be, what I wanted to do and who I'd be. Through the years I've learned that the aspirations, ideas and goals I had for myself changed at the hands of well, life.
Don't get me wrong, I am not hatin' on where I am or anything. I'm just raising the point that life's thrown wrenches, roadblocks and speedbumps at me, but am thankful to have the opportunity to be where and who I am.
I am totally intrigued by the creative process in general, no matter the medium. I work with creative professionals and express my creativity through whatever avenue made available to me. I enjoy writing (obviously), drawing and experiencing new things (I'm starting to sound like I'm writing a profile for a dating site, hahaha). I LOVE getting tattoos, watching tattoo artists work and the tattoo culture so much that I've been thinking about hatching an idea of opening a tattoo shop or getting involved with a shop in some way. I know it involves a ton of research, laws and such, which I haven't even begun to explore. It's just an very initial idea.
I appreciate a variety of art forms; urban art (graffiti), print and interactive design, vinyl toys (you know the stuff hawked by KidRobot), tattoo art and unique art, to touch on a few.
What do I consider unique art? Stuff like Abztract Boards (crazy shoutout to Shai and the Abztract family). You should check out Abztract . Sick... FOR REAL.
I'm also really into more simple times. You know... times when a guy got into his 1930 or 1950 something home built rod, rolled the window down, hung one elbow out the window and went cruising, unmuffled exhaust filling the air. That kind of simplicity.
On the otherhand, I'm a technology whore. Electronics, Apple products and big ass televisions get me going. I'm a music head and can't live without it. Oh yeah, I like beer.
Point being... no matter what wrenches, speedbumps, potholes and forks in the road that life has tossed (sometimes at MLB fastball speed) at me, I treat it like a splattered bug on my windshield. At first I'm shocked. Then I inspect the insect carcass (usually driving at a decent clip when it happens), do what I need to do to see past the bug guts and continue on my journey. I am thankful that I had the dreams, goals and ideas for myself but am even more thankful to have the experiences I've had and to be where and who I am.
Mahalo
'Sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Blackberry Blogging... What the hell am I talking about?!? All the weeks are long, this time of year. You know the time between your 'summer vacation' and your next long break from work... when all you want is a damn day off. Right. It falls smack in the middle of November, which is... well... Right FUCKING now!!!

Everyone's unplugged at the office, I can't access my blog from my PC there, Thanksgiving is next week, and Christmas is approaching like the drunk mailman in 'Funnyfarm' this great Chevy Chase film, circa 1988.

What. The. Fuck!?!?!?!

I feel better now, thanks. Work is going well. I enjoy the daily challenge. Barack Obama is going to be in office, coffee is back in my life and I feel good. Recently, I've been reading books like Pete Doherty blows lines. (Thank you Simon and soon-to-be Simon!) Started with a British piece, 'Kill Your Friends' which I honestly couldn't relinquish... so good...I found myself laughing out loud on the train. (It was so good I caught myself thinking with a British accent) Oi, Oi, Oi!

I backed that up with a memoir called 'Goat' A great book that had me looking inward at who I am and how one can summon their inner chi (oh, whatever) and step the fuck up to face their fears. I have another at the ready, 'Rant'. I'll start that on Monday while some wildabeast of a woman sits next to me on the train.

A friend of mine; Jason Borbet (who actually is completely responsible for me creating this blog) works for a great inter-web type (interactive desgin) agency in TriBeCa. Fi, Fantasy Interactive launched a new platform for blogging called Kontain. I am thinking about hosting my images there and possibly an offshoot blog. Check it out... it's pretty cool. http://www.kontain.com

Tattoo Turkey Day is almost upon us. They have an uplifting, positive message to convey to anyone.
Simply, the stage presence of Matisyahu, an orthodox Jewish hip hop artist, is inspirational. I see someone that shatters stereotypes that society has created. Dancing around the stage, Matisyahu's brilliant lyrics and beatboxing skills are evidence that anyone can do anything they put their mind to.
You can be who you are, follow your dreams, and we can aspire to bring social change, together.

People... My forgotten blog... How I've missed you.

Yes, it has been a while since I've posted anything, so stop complaining. Now you'll be up to speed with my goings on. (I know I promised to post photos from the Rental Car Rally and will do so soon. To scratch that nagging itch, check out http://www.flickr.com/groups/rentalcarrally/pool/ -make sure you click on the set from 'This is Me Smiling' to see our pics).

So in the past month a lot has been going on. Well not a shit-ton, but enough to make you keep reading... I hope. Anyway, I have spent the last month, or so, chasing relaxation, looking inward and doing what makes me happy. August ended and I found myself on a much needed vacation at the Jersey Shore. Nicole and I decided that it was about damn time that we got away for a bit, so we did. In truth, I didn't even make it to the beach. I had all I needed at the house...

A refrigerator full of beer... Check.

A backyard in the sun... Check.

A kiddie pool in the above... Check.

A grill... Check.

More beer... Check.

Friends visited which was super nice, and I got sunburned... Not super nice. So it goes.

Upon my triumphant, post hiatus, return, I did what I love to do... got another tattoo. A red and black nautical star on my calf. After Labor Day it was back to work, revived and refreshed. The following week it was off to NC on my dollar flight...WHAT WHAT!!!

We had a blast in NC... Tons of beer, great poolside activity. 'Hey, is someone having sex in the pool??' HAHAHAHA!!!

After our weekend in NC, I do what I love to do... Yup I got two more tattoos. A green and black nautical star on my other calf and Tilly, on the outside of my left leg. And... Yes, that makes twelve.

Now... The following weekend, we found ourselves in the mountains in Saugerties learning to relax, meditate and look inward. It was a phenomenal experience that taught me volumes.

There you have it, friends, now you are all caught up to my presesent day life.

If you don't know who Tilly is, google Tilly and Asbury Park, NJ. Living and 'growing up' in Asbury Park, changed my life.

B.Xprssv

'Sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

968 Miles of Unadulterated Debauchery...

That's right...
First annual Rental Car Rally is in the books. Two grueling days, two countries and three states, WOW!
Rental Car Rally is a road race from New York City (ok, Long Island City, to be exact) to Montreal. Participants are tasked to hit seven total checkpoints on the way to Montreal, and have twelve hours to do such. Sounds easy, right. Not so much.
Did I fail to mention that the vast majority of driving was on back roads through unsuspecting, once quaint, villages and hamlets throughout the Castskills and Adirondacks? Oh, and at 4am, in rain, hail and fog so thick I couldn't see five, yes five feet in front of the trusty 328. Right.
Arriving at the start location in LIC, we are greeted by participants that showed as much balls, AND poor judgement as we. Teams piloted whips ranging from rented mini-vans disguised as blood donation vans(thanks for occupying that cop's attention), rented smart cars (those things can handle a serious beating), to a Mistubishi 3000 GT VR4, Audi TT's to rented uber horse Vettes The pic witin is of a team's 2008 ZHZ with 436 bhp. (There were two, but the other fell victim to electrical issues at about the halfway point).
At the stroke of midnight, Friday, as the Empire State building's lights fell dim, the rally began. We jetted through midtown with wreckless abandon, shaking a Mini off our tail only to blow past them at semi-breakneck speed in NJ. Then the real fun began.
Following direction of GPS, we twisted and turned through serious hairpins, up ridiculous loose gravel roads, cutting through dense fog, hail and heavy downpours in ultra rural mountain folk country at speeds those roads have NEVER seen. Imagine 60 cars blasting through villages and hamlets at 3am from all directions. Yea... it was effin ridiculous. (Thanks to the lady at the gas station at 4am for telling us we were crazy, and where the HELL we were... PS, Amsterdam, NY).
Never-the-less, we found daybreak upon us tearing through Adirondack State Park, full of Red Bull and smelling like hot ass. After a few good deeds to fellow rally folk, we continued through the State Park dodging joggers and cyclists with the infamous Mini staring at our tail lights. Did I forget to mention they had lost their GPS after the first checkpoint and we were guiding them. I think I did.
Arriving at the Vermont side of Lake Champlain and seeing other rally folk was a beautiful sight. Aristocrats were throwing money around like they make it... Oh yea they did. Some took a dip to wake up, and some just walked away with a fresh pair of B.Young's underware. PS, I never knew fake money could cover so much skin. Back in the car... Into Canada!!!
We logged a lot of miles in the 11 hours (stopping only for pics, gas, water and of course to pee)of the first leg of the race. Proudly, we were in the top 15 cars arriving in Montreal at 1130ish.
Ridiculously fun times had by all.
As soon as I fully recover, I'll post more pics.
B.OnThrllst
'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

What it be like...

Yea... It's been a while, I got it. No need to tell me, I know it.

Quick update on normal everyday goings on... I saw my favorite band the other day, Flobots. I absolutely love everything they stand for, love the fact that they fuse together many different genres of music to make one kick ass sound.

Great food, great show, great people. VIP kicked ass, some people simply got kicked out. Not going there.

Love you, for making that shit happen, and more importantly for everything you are.

You know exactly who you are.

You should 'Stand Up' and be recognized, world wide, for what you do for me. I know you don't like to be in the spotlight, so it's cool.

Forging forward. Some people say I never really, I mean truly, express myself at this venue. So I want to share something I wrote before I got my heavybag. So here goes.

I bought a wallet... Because it makes me happy. If you've ever browsed the inter-web, saw something, read about it and it spoke to you so much that you HAFTA HAVE it, then you can relate.

I was feeling pretty down one night, and started inter-webbing (so what, I just made that word up?!), and I came across this site that sold wallets. Browing through the site, I see a plethora of sweet ass wallets. Let's be clear here, all the wallets are effin' kick ass.

I read the story about MY wallet, and instantly think, "I've GOTTA have this fucking wallet". I want to share, with you, the story of my db clay wallet, 'The Original Dammasch, Again'. (That's the name of the wallet).

"...It pretty much summarizes a spiritual transformation realized be me (not me, the founders of db clay) and a few close others while db clay was beginning. "Dammasch" is the name of an abandoned mental hospital we all (again, not me personally) toured and studied back in 2003 and being there indeed transformed my way of thinking on a multitude of levels... I find it ironic that an abandoned mental hospital is what inspired a lot of this and still fuels the creative direction of db clay. Maybe I belong there too".

Ok, it's me again. I am intrigiued by anything with a story. This indeed does have a story. I encourage you to take a look at the site that tells stories about Dammasch. www.dammasch.com .

More importantly, check out db clay's site. They are a very "green" company based out of Oregon. ww2.dbclay.com .

Maybe I should visit an abandoned mental hospital... Hmm.

B.Nsprd

'Sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Sent from my Effin' CrackBerry

How Did You Celebrate Your Independence?

Happy Fourth of July (weekend)!! I truly hope your weekend was full of hotdogs, beer, and fireworks. Most importantly, I hope you celebrated your independence in your own way.

The pic to the left... what does that have to do with ANYTHING?? Meet Tilley. Tilley is as American as apple pie. His face has graced Asbury Park for decades. Tilley reminds me of good and bad times I had in Asbury. He reminds me that I found my independence in Asbury Park, NJ. Read on... it will all be tied together in the end.

Friday, I found myself laying in bed at 2pm wondering how I would celebrate and what the day would bring. After putting VERY little thought into planning my day (yea, I am NOT a planner) I ring my buddy Corey and see what he's up to. No sooner than we hang up the phone, almost in fast forward mode, we are on the way to get more ink. YES, another tattoo!!! I've had an idea of my next (few) tattoos for a while, and am finally taking action. An hour later, I am waxing nostalgia with this cool cat, Matt Rosenthal.

To make a long story, well... less long, Matt was an apprentice for a well known tattoo pioneer, Gene Bernardo, out of Asbury Park, NJ. Matt and I talked a lot about Gene, and the shops in Asbury and Long Branch. Gene owned the shop that I frequented for a few pieces. Ends up that Gene taught Matt everything he knows. Matt had a fresh neck piece, of this tattoo gun that Gene had given him. Both the ink, and the actual jailhouse tat gun (that Matt proudly displayed with a note from Gene, on his station, were VERY impressive). Thanks for sharing your story Matt!!

My point is, I always end up meeting people, in tattoo related situations, that bring back fond memories. Tattoo culture is truly binding. Lasting relationships are forged over tattoos. Yes, the artist is leaving their mark on you... but there's something deeper. I can relate to the places Matt has been, has seen, and has worked, and he got that.

Yea, I have 8 other pieces, by different artists, but the latest is different. It was an extremely freeing piece. I felt good! I feel great! "Look at me, look at me... Hands in the air like its good to be alive".

I celebrated my independence MY FUCKING way!! How did you celebrate?

B.WxngNstlga

'sometimes you gotta spell it out"

It's in the Air... Yes music, makes the world go 'round. I love music, and so does the world. Ask yourself, how many people you see walking around, driving down the street listening to music. Everybody. Music evokes some emotion from everyone that listens. You could be getting amped to go to the gym, you could stay motivated while riding your bike (with no handle bars) or you could sit and reminisce about good times or bad. What I'm saying is music plays a gigantic part in life.

I wonder if you hear the same things I hear in Bob or Amy, Ingrid Michaelson or Jimi, Jay-Z or Flobots, Weezy or Janice. Music definitely sets the mood, changes your perspective and lays the founation for thought.

Today, I urge each of you that read my blog (yes, all 2 of you), to listen to music that evokes positive feelings. Sit for a minute and enjoy a track or record. Truly listen to what the artist is saying.

B...(Eff it)... Just B.

'Sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2008/07/its-in-air-everywhere.html' title='It's in the Air... Looking for a change of scenery, I opted out of Bryant Park for a short tryst in Grace Plaza. It's close to the office, yet far enough away to be able to let go.
Today, I'll share a quote or two with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
*30's the new 20 I'm so hype, still. -JayZ
*Be your own boss and keep integrity at any cost. -Nas
*It is not length of life, but depth of life.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
So, I leave you with the insightful words of Jay-Z, Nas and Emerson.
B.Strng
'Sometimes you gotta spell it out'
Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

'Look at all the People'

There is something happening in the park, always. Nobody's pissed in my cornflakes for a while. Bonus.

Yep, things have been pretty good over the past 7 months since I've written. Nothing major is happening. The United States is preparing for our first black president. (this has no reflection on my political views). Work is great, life is good, quality is on the rise.

Hmmm, let's get you up to speed. Hip Hop Saved My Life. Wonder what I mean? Here goes. Not only is it the title of a great song by Lupe Fiasco, I feel that statement. Things have been good, and you know what... there comes a point, apparently, after I turned 30 where things changed for me. I found music again, and it makes me happy. I found myself immersed in music and loving it again. Went to a Lupe, N.E.R.D., Kanye show and it changed me. Flobots kick ass. Cool Kids new album... dig it.

It took a minute for me to find out a little bit about myself, and really discover the 'me' under the surface. You know, the things that make you feel free and send that tingle through you. I want to share...

Cooling nonchalant at the far end of the spectrum

Traditional hot rods and tattoos

Innovative TV spots and ads

My Mac

Chuck Taylors

iPods and Blackberries

Music

Photography

Kid Robot

Dope shoes (old school and vintage sneakers)

Skulls

Good books

Argyle

My new mountain bike

Pop culture

There you have it... some now know me better, and some just know me. Take it or leave it.. it's me and I FUCKING love it!!!

B.ReNvNtD

'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Once in a while...

I get the overpowering desire to go ballistic. So catch up!

So, it's been a while, (I think alot of my blogs start that way)... so yours truly wants to take a few minutes to do some blogging.
Where to start... Let's start with the most time consuming part of my day, work. People I truly respect are no longer working with me. It makes things a litte difficult, but I'm managing. A bit more stressed, but I'm managing that as well.
On the home front, and a sad note, we had to put Marleigh down, our Rottweiler puppy. She had an aggressive form of cancer, at a year and a half old. It's a shame... she was a great dog and is missed.
I took a weekend trip to Virginia to visit my brother, who I haven't seen in seventeen years. It was really nice to see him, meet his family and spend some time catching up. We spent some time on the farm. That's right, i said farm. He has about 500 acres. It is about 17 miles away from the nearest town.
I need to reconnect with all the people in my life that I have been meaning to, but haven't, because life got in the way.
With everything going on in my life, I am craving a creative outlet. I am not quite sure what that is yet, but am very open to suggestions, if any of you (all two who read this) have ideas let me know.
B.LV
'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2007/10/been-busy-so-catch-up.html' title='Been busy... I've got something to say.

Yea, I know... I havn't been a good little blogger recently. Today is different. Since Borbay has lit a fire under my ass, I've got to be more diligent posting to my blog.
So after a fantastic day at work, I return home (actually to my car) and find my car has been underwater at some point. (the waterline about two and a half, maybe three feet up the side of the car gave it away initially). So naturally, I open he door, and am greated by a smell that can only be described as hot garbage.
Long story short, friends, it's 10:15 by the time the flatbed gets there, a few gallons of water low out of the exhaust (THAT'S a lovely sight) and my car sits in the dealership's lot waiting to learn it's fate.
Bottom line, can't wait for ths week to be over, and I need a drink.
B.Something
'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2007/07/funny-ive-got-something-to-say.html' title='Funny... I've taken on a lot more responsibility at the office, and am swamped with work, joy.

Nicole took me to this bar/restaurant called 'The Barn'. It's an old school barn that's been made into a restaurant. When you pull in the driveway, you feel like you're driving into someone's house... and in their backyard is a barn. Bottom line, great burger, cool spot, watch your head, ceiling's crazy low.

Other than that, nothing has changed. I've had a different outlook on things recently, and it seems to be working (if that's even the right word). I can only do so much for anyone or anything. I am one human being who cannot control everyones actions.

All I know is friends are valued, no matter how long may pass between conversations.

Its a beautiful day... get off your fucking computer and do something.

B. What have I been up to?

Bottles of Dom, Cuban cigars, chauffered Maybach's, helipads and the Hamptons. The jet set lifestyle has welcomed me with open arms. Then I woke up to a screeching alarm.
A day in the life of this extraordinary guy... I wake up when my alarm or dogs get loud enough to warrant my arousal out of bed.

On a weekday, I drag my half consious being into the shower, rest my head on the tile and let the water awaken my soul. With shower and (if I feel so inclined) shave complete I get dressed and am standing on the platform waiting for my train within 35 minutes of being vertical. A little iPod and graffiti admiration (Note: NJ graffiti does not hold a candle to NYC), grab some coffee and walk into the office... And so the weekday begins.

Weekends entail, pretty much, the same thing. Wake up, consume a SERIOUS amount of coffee, put on less adult looking clothes (usually a hoodie of sorts) play with my dogs, hang with my lady and do some things around the house. Of course you're to assume fun is had throughout the day... You've got to maintain sanity somehow.

B.Young, how is that the same as your weekday, you ask? (if you didn't ask..oh well, you're too far in to stop reading now, and I'll tell you). It's the same to me, because I truly enjoy the things I do. Working in the office is great because of the people I work with, talk to and spend the day with. Being at home, doing things with my lady, my dogs, and my friends makes me happy as well.

Enjoying what you do is key to enjoying your life. Somtimes I may not be able to see that through the smoke, but I know I truly enjoy this chapter.

B.Klassy

'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.bdotsomething.com/2007/01/so-what-have-i-been-up-to.html' title='So... This weekend brought about my lady's birthday celebration. Thanks to the usuals for a great night of drinking, conversation and times to remember.
Today in the city... The smell of gas permiated the air from midtown to downtown, PATH stopped running and all. To boot, New Yorkers, natives and commuters, were concerned about the smell being a terroristic attempt. Of course there was the evacuation buzz in the building...but to no avail. Oh well.

The office was quiet and bare today and will be tomorrow. I have decided to focus on becoming the best at what I do. I am becoming a no bullshit, tell it like it is type person... don't like it... Don't let me rep you... I hope to change that moving forward.

Speaking of changing... 2007 will bring about a new B.Young. I want to get back to being the B.Young everyone knows and loves. I remember experiencing my first taste of what I thought was 'success' ... I guess it was success for us then... I remember every Friday night... So many things have changed... yet I really hope that bond still exists... in my mind it does.

B.Dffrnt.
'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

BdotSomething Asks You...

When the going gets tough... Back to work on Monday...YAY... and now Tuesday...

So, the latest news off the presses... Brit Brit filed for divorce from K-Fed. (I think Stevie Wonder saw that coming).

In more stimulating news, sitting on the PATH tonight (rockin out to the iPod) I glance across the car and see the usual commuters wearing the usual gray pants and light blue shirts, pinstripped suits and the ladies sporting the short pants, 'capris' or whatever the hell they are, with boots... You all know what the hell I'm talkin about. There is one commuter that sparks my interest.

The subject... Female, mid twenties, brown hair, reading a book. I glance up and see nothing out of the ordinanry... Until I see an index finger begin to slowly caress her chin... Then her lip... Now said subject moves to caressing her cheek then lip again. All of a sudden, out of NOWHERE this woman plunges her finger (knuckle deep, mind you) into her fucking nose like she had an itch in the back of her skull.

After a few minutes (no...really) her finger emerges. On the tip... long stringy green schoz booty... nostrel treasure (aka booger) attached at the other end to her inner nose. After freeing her 'finding' from her nose she proceeds to examine it (proudy mind you) and slowly insert her finger... booger and all... in her mouth.

I will spare you all the rest (the damage is done already) but this scenario went on for the 14 minute ride. Plunge, Examine, Eat.

In the spirit of Election Day... I vote Borbay for Czar. Actually started the day off on a good note. Woke up...hell that's a good thing right there… had a good day recruiting, and still looking to meet with a ton of people (production artists and designers). If you know of any, looking for freelance work, or are one, drop me a line. Yea, gotta make the loot somehow...

So I came to terms with the fact that I'm a pimp. I pimp people out based on their skills. I also consider myself an 'agent', an Ari Gold, if you will. The only thing that differentiates the two of us is Ari has minions...aka Lloyd... LLOOOOYD!!!! (love Entourage) OH...and millions of dollars, but i've got millions of cents... So i'm catchin up.

So to rewind... What's 'quarrange'? Well, in addition to yours truly being a 'pimp' I decided t0 try my hand at developing vocabulary. This particular word, qurrange, is a situation where one is uneasy, agitated or forced to take action.

Example: Jack is in a quarrange because he found out Jill has the clap.

Use it ... Love it... But remember where you heard it first.

B.Quarrange

'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Ehhhhh... it's

Monday.... This morning started with my lady sleeping in because she had a day off from molding the future of America and unruly dogs making me late for the train, but whatever. Finally I get to the train station, about 1 minute before the train is due... Still have to feed the meter AND buy a ticket. Meter's broken... And there's a line at the ticket booth. Caught the train just as it was leaving and called the men in blue about the meter, so i am sans ticket when i return.

G-Rock really needs another ticket booth... I need a cup of coffee.

Work was pretty bare (employee wise) heard the Columbus Day parade in Midtown. Tom busts a move.

Once again ... good times...

B.Spontaneous
'sometimes you gotta spell it out'

Beautiful People Party then Kidnapped...

This weekend began with a quick subway jaunt to <st1:street st="on"><st1:address st="on">89th Too many times does "working at" life get in the way of "having a life". There is time for everything that I want to do, and time to maintain the relationships that I have going on with all my friends.

This weekend was one of the best weekends that I have had in a very long time. I got together with a good friend that I lost touch with. It is just like picking up where we left off, no questions, just understanding.

Since most of us all are all "blackberried up" it is a good indication that we are always on the go. So I created Bdotdotdot. I wanted to have a way to put things out there that are going on in my life, and in my world. It (hopefully) will be a good way for all my friends to see the happenings with me, and it may be a good way to keep in touch with each other.

So you say, "hey, this is stupid". Then I say "This is my way to keep sane, and keeping in the mix with everyone.
